You've got until tomorrow to comment on the City of Perth's new urban forest plan.
I like it! Especially these keys:
1. Big, long-lived trees will be their priority from now on.
2. They won't consider water used to grow and sustain their urban forest as "wasted".
3. Their default preference for natives is over - it's now about "best fit".
I sent in my feedback which included these two comments:
a) 450 new trees a year seems light on if you want to achieve serious canopy increase - this number will really only maintain the status quo I would have thought.
b) The plan should include measuring the mortality rate of their new plantings - otherwise they could be treading water!
