There seems to be an increasing trend towards concrete median islands in Perth*.
Under their "Green Streets" program, the City of Sydney is going the other way and pulling out many of theirs and planting trees instead.
It would be a shame if we cotton-on too late and start pulling ours out again twenty years from now.
We get a bit nervous in Perth about driving into trees (we're good at that - getting nervous I mean) but in relatively slow traffic environments we can wear that risk, can't we?
Everyone else seems to.
* This photo isn't actually a good example of what I'm talking about. I'm referring to new medians where we have opportunity to do whatever we want but are increasingly choosing to fill them with stencilled concrete. This old slabbed one just happened to be on the way to Hudson and Hughie. Awesome shop if you're in the area.
