After a couple of inspiring days in Melbourne talking urban forest with some of the best from around the world, it looks a bit uninspired to put this picture up, right?
Not really. Because it all starts here. This is the coalface. Get this bit wrong and you've got no urban forest.
Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon sight in Perth. The sand bund that formed the watering bowl around this tree has broken down and the water is running down the street*.
This - together with only watering at best once a week - explains the 70-80% mortality rates we experience here.
But not for long. We've come up with a solution. You can read about it here and here.
* This is a double whammy actually because as the water runs away from the tree it takes the mulch with it meaning that even the small amount of water the tree gets is now being lost to evaporation! Our system solves all this.
