Ideology vs reality (2)

"You have created the garden, just as you have the house, as a frankly man-made thing for your use and enjoyment. It is a little unfair to attempt to prove that Nature has crept slyly over the back fence and done the job for you."

Thomas Church said this about designing gardens ("Gardens Are For People" by Grace Hall and Michael Laurie, University of California Press, 1995, p31) but I think it could equally be applied to streetscapes:

"You have created the streetscape, just as you have the city, as a frankly man-made thing for your use and enjoyment. It is a little unfair to attempt to prove that Nature has crept slyly into the street and done the job for you."
