Do you really need an Urban Forest Plan?

Yes. And no.

I was talking to a Parks mate about this the other day and he said "we just plant trees wherever we can". That's actually a plan! And not a bad one to be honest.

It reminds me of this by Herb Kelleher, founder of Southwest Airlines (USA):

"Yes, we have a strategic plan. It's called 'doing things'. " *

Councils need to beware of making their urban forest planning process so complex they suffer from paralysis by analysis.

If you haven't created an Urban Forest Plan yet and don't even know where to start, use my mate's one rather than do nothing. Just make them BIG trees :)

*  I actually saw this on a Gaping Void print by Hugh McLeod. Subscribe to his daily emails - they're good.
